Our cozy and welcoming classrooms are small, so each student receives daily one-on-ones with their teacher. Together, they can address individual learning needs and set goals to improve academic performance and reach their full potential. Our educators do everything they can to help your child succeed. We offer quality education with a wide range of additional programs, including GATE, language, arts and STEAM for all our students from pre-kindergarten to grade 8.

First Steps Elementary Academy welcomes children from as young as three years old through to Grade 8. Our Pre-School and Pre-Kinders programs provide a nurturing early start within our school community, and our Kindergarten through Grade 8 classrooms carry that foundation forward. Starting early means your child builds lasting relationships, confidence, and a love of learning that grows with them every year.

Every child is welcome here. We don’t have any intimidating interviews or lengthy assessment processes. We believe every child deserves a quality education and a place where they truly belong. Whether your child needs extra support, is ready to be challenged at an advanced level, or simply needs a school that will take the time to truly know them, First Steps is ready to open the door. First Steps Elementary Academy is a Independent Accredited School that follows the Alberta Education curriculum from Kindergarten through Grade 8. Your child's education meets every provincial standard, so transitions, whether into our school or beyond, are seamless. We simply deliver that curriculum in an environment that puts your child first.

We believe a well-rounded education goes far beyond textbooks. In addition to our core academic program, we offer:

  • Gifted and Talented (GAT) Program — advanced programming for students ready to be challenged beyond grade level
  • Remedial Support — individualized help for students who need extra time and attention to solidify their skills
  • Off-Site Physical Education — active, engaging gym classes outside the classroom
  • Arts & STEAM Integration — creative and analytical thinking woven throughout the curriculum
  • ESL (English as a Second Language) — support for students building their English language skills
  • French — foundational French instruction
  • Music — We are also actively exploring the addition of private music lessons. 

Tuition at First Steps is structured to be as flexible as possible for families. A non-refundable $300 registration fee per student is required to secure your child's spot, and families can choose from three convenient payment options: full payment upfront, a single September payment, or three installments in September, December, and March.

Families with more than one child enrolled also benefit from a sibling discount: 5% off for two children, 10% for three, and 15% for families with four or more.

For Pre-School and Pre-Kinders programs, government-mandated childcare fee changes effective April 1, 2025 apply. Full-time care is set at $326.25/month and part-time at $230.00/month.

  3. Submit your registration fee — A $300 non-refundable deposit reserves your child's spot for the school year.
  4. Your child starts class — That's it. Your family is part of the First Steps community.
