Stem/Steam Activities at First Steps

At First Steps Elementary Academy, we believe in actively engaging our children and students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) projects. We love to involve our students in STEM and STEAM Projects. Our focus is on fostering higher-level thought processes through exciting and educational activities.

Cross-Curricular Stem Projects

What sets First Steps' STEM/STEAM program apart is our commitment to cross-curricular integration. Our STEM projects are cross curricular, ensuring that learning is not confined to a single subject but rather connects various disciplines to provide a holistic educational experience. This approach allows students to see the interconnectedness of knowledge and apply their learning in meaningful ways.

Key Skills and Knowledge Gained

Through our STEM/STEAM program, we aim to equip our students with essential skills and knowledge that will serve them well in the future. We foster discovery, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, confidence, and independence. These skills are crucial for success in academics and life, enabling our students to become innovative thinkers and confident problem-solvers.

Canadian Habitat Project

One example of a particularly successful and fun STEM/STEAM project the kids worked on was the "Canadian Habitat" project. This project involved students researching and creating models of different Canadian habitats, learning about the flora, fauna, and environmental factors that characterize each region. This hands-on experience not only enhanced their understanding of Canadian geography and ecology but also fostered collaboration and creativity.
